My
son will be 11 in September; can he fish SAA waters when accompanied by
myself, or does he need to join as a Young Member?
|
He
needs to join as a Young Member under 14, for a nominal membership fee of
£1.00 per year. He will still need
to be accompanied when on SAA waters.
|
|
Are
there any competitions for Young/Junior Members?
|
Unfortunately
at present, the answer is ‘no’, as numbers have declined considerably
from the ‘good old times’ when we had 100 or more junior members. If
anyone has the incentive and time to consider arranging such matches, they
should contact the committee to discuss possible ways forward.

|
Can
I have a map of the different waters AND some of the maps are not
very clear?
|
Some
maps have been redrawn in the Booklet. Others may be updated later. Speak to the nominated Water Representative if you
need help in finding a specific water.
The website has sections of OS map to assist you.
|
|
Can
I park at Curls Farm next to the water as I have often seen cars parked
there?
|
This
facility is only available for registered disabled members who are unable
to walk from the car park. Any authorised member parking next to the water
does so at his or her own risk All able members must park in the
designated area.
|
|
There
appears to be a discrepancy between the qualifying age for Senior Citizen
Membership with other clubs. Also the membership fee is too high.
|
Comments
noted. In line with anti-discrimination legislation, Senior Citizenb
membership is now available to anyone of 65 or older. In cases of real
hardship the committee is always able to consider individual cases on
their merits. If you are aware of anyone who you believe needs assistance
with their membership fee, please contact an officer of the club. Such
cases will be treated in complete confidence.

|
We
could do with an all round specimen lake with double figure bream!
|
If
you can find one in our area we would be interested, but we are doubtful
that such a venue exists.
|
|
Can
we have a more regular newsletter to explain planned maintenance works?
|
Producing
newsletters involves considerable effort and is costly. We currently aim
for between 3 and 4 newsletters a year. The SAA website is now up and
running, and is a lower cost medium than newsletters, although it is not
accessible by everyone.
|
|
Parking
for cars is generally inadequate and then poorly indicated, especially
around the Chilley Stream stretches.
|
This
is a problem on a number of waters. Unfortunately we rarely enjoy
dedicated parking areas at our waters because they can not be made
available. Indicating parking areas can attract
unwanted visitors and fly tipping. Additionally, in some instances,
there is no legal or other entitlement to park near our accesses. In these
cases, you will have to park where you can at your own risk.
|
|
Some
good fishing but do we need all the water?
|
Our
membership numbers are growing steadily. The sharing arrangements allow us
to have access to waters we could otherwise not afford. With the recent
acquisitions of new enclosed waters, we probably have sufficient for the
time being. There is currently no obvious benefit in off-loading any of
our existing waters, but we do review this at least once a year.
|
|
Do
any of our enclosed waters contain carp exceeding 20lbs?
|
Not
at present; carp exceeding 15lbs are caught regularly from Ripe and these
may or may not grow on to 20lbs or more.
Larger carp are caught from the Waller’s Haven from time to time.
|
|
There
are limited facilities for disabled members.
Can more facilities be made available?
|
The
management committee is conscious of this point and is obviously aware of
the legal position (to make reasonable adjustments).
There are some “facilities” available at enclosed waters such
as Ripe and Glyndley. Providing
adequate provision at non-enclosed waters is more difficult as landowners
need ultimate control of entry gates that contain livestock and we cannot
(legally) do anything to the bank side access.
We will continue to investigate provision of more facilities, but
at the moment there are limited opportunities.
|
|
I
feel it is a waste of funds acquiring small ponds when the monies could be
better spent on existing waters.
|
We
have needed to invest in more ponds to provide more waters that can be
fished in the river close season. All
of our smaller ponds appear very popular; it is too early to judge
Hempstead Ponds as it hasn’t been open that long.
Unfortunately, those larger enclosed waters that are around are
either not practicable for us to rent or are unaffordable. If you
know of larger enclosed waters that are available to rent at a reasonable
rate please contact the Committee.

|
Any
chance of acquiring further stretches of the Cuckmere or perhaps
“wild” unfished waters?
|
We
routinely review the “portfolio” of waters we have against the needs
of the members; the questionnaire providing valuable information in this
regard. New waters do become
available from time to time, but we need to strike a balance between
member numbers, membership fees and how much we pay for rents.
At the present time we are not actively looking for new water, but
if something worthwhile comes up, we will look at it seriously.
|
|
Where can I make “Guest Ticket” applications?
|
We
don’t have a Guest Ticket system but we do have “Guest Permits”.
You can obtain these from most local tackle shops and you will need
your Year book to verify you are a member.
|
|
Can
we build or negotiate for improved parking arrangements at the Sussex Ox
section of the Cuckmere?
|
We
have investigated this previously without success; unfortunately there is
nowhere that is sensibly available for this.
Because of this, the rent that we pay is modest, in recognition of
the parking difficulty.
|
|
Which
commercial fisheries do we as members get discount at?
|
None;
we found that previously agreed concessions were not being honoured, so we
no longer seek (and hence advertise) any concessions.
