Pevensey Marshes occupy a large area of drained land between Pevensey and Bexhill.  Many names in this area end in 'ey' (or 'eye') an early name for an island, which many of them originally were.  The Havens are marsh drains, their claim to fame being their intended use as a defence against Napoleon's army, the intention being to raise the gates and flood the marshes if they had tried to land here.

Under normal circumstances these waters have a gentle flow, but this may increase dramatically if flooding 'up country' requires the gates to be opened, when the water can also colour dramatically.

All the marsh waters contain: Bream, some Carp and Crucian Carp, Eels, some Gudgeon, Perch, Pike, Roach, Rudd, some Ruff and Tench.

The Association has Waters on Pevensey Haven, the Chilley Stream, Raillands Ditch and several stretches on the banks of Waller's Haven.
