Middle Bridge Upstream - Hastings Model Flying Club (HMFC)

Some members will be aware that HMFC own the field opposite our land at Middle Bridge and use this for flying model aircraft. HMFC run a number of airshows during the year and apart from these, the most intense activity appears to be at a weekend. The aircraft vary in size, but some are quite large.

There have been a number of instances of model aircraft crashing both near to our members and in the Wallers Haven itself. For this reason we have opened dialogue with HMFC and hope to achieve some changes to the flying activity to lessen the current risk to our members.

Final agreement on these changes has yet to be reached but in the interim we have agreed on a number of measures as follows: -

For your own safety, members should not fish near the take off/landing zone currently marked, particularly at the weekend.

We will advise HMFC of all our fixtures and bookings affecting this water and where possible, HMFC will avoid flying on these days.

Likewise, HMFC will advise us of the dates (see below) of their airshows when flying activity is most intense. These dates will be communicated to members and we advise you not to fish this water on those days.

We have asked that HMFC check there is no one fishing in the direct line of the current take-off zone. If there is, they are to attract the persons attention, forewarn them about the risks and politely ask that they consider moving. Should this happen to you, please do not be offensive in return.

Finally, if you happen to be present when one of the models crashes on our land or in the river, please advise any Committee member or via secretary.saa@gmail.com . Records of these instances will strengthen our case in arguing the need for changes to the current flying arrangements.

HMFC FLYING DATES FOR 2010/11 not yet available
