Competition and Specimen Awards

A number of trophies are awarded annually for the winners of competitions and those catching specimen fish. Trophies are awarded at the Social Evening usually in late April. Winners of trophies will be notified beforehand.

The qualifying criterion for each award is summarised below. Awards are subject to final sanction by the Committee.

Competition Awards

These awards are determined by either a points system or by weight. Where points are used, 51 points are awarded to the winner of each round and 50 to the second etc. Competitors failing to catch/weigh-in in a competition that they contest are awarded 1 point. In some competitions, not all rounds count.

Evening Cup – points from best 5 out of 6 rounds to count

Southdown Challenge – 1 competition round only – best weight wins

Pole Shield – 1 competition round only – best weight wins

Marsh Shield – 5 competition round series – points from all rounds count

Cuckmere Cup – 3 competition round series – points from all rounds count

Christmas Competition – 3 competition round series – points from all rounds count

Percy Baron – 3 competition round series – points from all rounds count

Bill Walder – 1 competition round only – best weight wins

Aggregate Weight Cup – aggregate weight of all matches fished

Roger Weston Cup - highest placed member in the annual Memorial/Charity competition

Specimen Awards

Best Specimen Fish - awarded to the member catching the best specimen fish adjudged by reference to the current Southdown Angling Association record or the minimum specimen weight as appropriate. Alternatively, the winner may be determined objectively at the discretion of the Committee.

Most Specimen Fish #1 - awarded to the member submitting the largest number of authenticated specimen fish forms, one of each species only to count. In the event of a tie- the Committee will determine the winner.

Most Specimen Fish #2- awarded to the member submitting the second largest number of authenticated specimen fish forms, one of each species only to count. In the event of a tie- the Committee will determine the winner.

Individual Species Cup Awards - at the discretion of the Committee, individual awards may be awarded to a member catching the heaviest specimen of each species caught on Southdown Angling Association waters.

The particular trophies that are presented to winners may vary from year to year.
